Shauna Leigh Shepherd, Founder and Creator of Becoming Gold Together
Becoming Gold Together grew from more than a decade of working as a counselor alongside people navigating fear, grief, trauma, change, and the complexities of human relationships. It also emerged from my own experiences of motherhood, love, loss, and starting over, where I came to understand that our deepest beliefs about love are often tested in the moments when we feel most afraid.
My background in counseling psychology, anthropology, expressive arts, somatic practices, and spirituality has shaped how I understand human transformation. Yet throughout my personal and professional life, I kept returning to one essential question: How do we practice love when we are afraid? How do we remain compassionate when relationships become difficult, when our children struggle, when we experience loss, or when our instinct is to withdraw, defend, or control?
These questions led me to develop the S.T.A.R. Theory (Stages of Transformational Awareness through Relation), a seven-stage framework inspired by the life cycle of stars. Through awareness, embodied practices, and relationship, the method explores how seven fundamental human fears can become opportunities to cultivate compassion, authenticity, trust, belonging, and love.
At the heart of this work is my understanding that transformation happens through relationship. We learn to love through our experiences with one another, through our bodies, our families, our communities, and our relationship with the living Earth. In a time of growing uncertainty and collective crisis, I believe our capacity to practice love is essential to how we heal and shape the world we share.
